TIME’S UP FOR THE BILLIONAIRES

OUR SOCIALIST PROGRAM

CAPITALISM IS A NATIONAL EMERGENCY! THE SOLUTION IS SOCIALISM!

Rents and prices are through the roof, billionaires hoard wealth while workers struggle, and climate disasters grow worse each year: capitalism is a national emergency. We can use society’s wealth to meet people’s needs. The solution is socialism join our movement to fight for it!

  • In the U.S. today, nearly two-thirds of adults live paycheck to paycheck. Food insecurity is rising even though 40% of our food supply is thrown away every year. It is harder and harder to access dignified housing even though there are more empty homes on the market than homeless people in this country. Healthcare is so pricey that medical expenses are the leading cause of bankruptcy, and yet health outcomes like life expectancy, maternal mortality, and infant mortality are worse in the U.S. than in countries with fewer resources. How is this possible?

We have enough wealth in this country to ensure a dignified life for every one of us. Instead, because we live in a capitalist system, the resources we create through our collective hard work are hoarded by greedy billionaires. The richest 900 people own as much wealth as the poorest 170,000,000 of us. This irrational system of inequality is administered by politicians, both Republican and Democrat, who claim to represent us, but really serve the billionaires.

We are fighting for a whole new system: a socialist system, where political power is in the hands of the working class and we plan the economy to meet our needs.

Socialism will make it possible to unleash society’s vast resources and people power to guarantee a dignified life for us all. We propose a set of National Emergency Acts to seize the top 100 corporations (worth over $30 trillion combined) and convert them to public property, along with a 100% tax on all assets above 10 million dollars. This will generate public revenue to fund quality housing, healthcare, nutritious food, education, childcare, and a dignified retirement for all.

  • The climate crisis threatens us all and should be treated as the emergency that it is. If the status quo is allowed to continue, we will see catastrophic consequences in the years to come. This crisis has been created by capitalism and cannot be solved under capitalism — the billionaires and the politicians who serve them will never sacrifice their profits, even to avoid global catastrophe. In order to save our planet, we need a new system.

Under a socialist system, we will prioritize our collective future. We propose a National Climate Emergency Act to seize and decommission the billionaires’ fossil fuel infrastructure, and to build a renewable energy grid in its place. This will be done through a national mobilization of workers akin to the Civilian Conservation Corps and Works Progress Administration of the 1930s and 40s, which hired over 10 million workers to construct lasting public infrastructure. We will invoke that legacy to turn the billionaires’ pollution economy into the people’s green economy.

  • Why is it that in the United States there are tens of millions of people unemployed at any given moment, while at the same time there are millions of essential jobs left unfilled nationwide? For capitalism, unemployment is a feature, not a bug. It allows the billionaires to keep us scared of losing our jobs so they can drive wages as low as possible. Additionally, we as workers don’t have the power to decide what types of jobs are available to us, or which challenges of society are addressed through our work.

Under a socialist system, not only would the economy be restructured to prioritize meeting the needs of people and the planet, but everyone would have the right to a meaningful job to contribute to this transformation. Through the National Employment Emergency Act, we will guarantee well-paid union jobs and job training so each one of us can take part in building the society we deserve. We will mobilize as workers to guarantee dignified housing, healthcare, education, nutritious food, childcare, and dignified retirement for all through the formation of an organized People’s Corps

The emergency act will also address the automating away of our jobs  — something that is only accelerating with the development of artificial intelligence (AI). Technological advancements should improve society, but under capitalism they lead to devastation for workers. Our National Employment Emergency Act will include points specifically pertaining to the use of AI and other advanced technology to ensure it is properly regulated and deployed to benefit society.

  • Since 2023, as the Democrats and Republicans have both funded and supported the genocide in Gaza, the narrative of the U.S. government as a “peacemaker” and “champion for democracy” has fallen completely flat. The truth is that both parties are determined to exert domination over the rest of the world. This is not simply a matter of policy, but a feature of the U.S. capitalist system.

Our campaign is completely opposed to this system of domination. We demand a system of solidarity a socialist system in which working class people in the U.S. stand with working people all over the world. Our Emergency Act to End War and Militarism is the first step. It includes cutting the military budget by 90% (the U.S military budget is currently bigger than the next nine countries combined) and closing all 800+ military bases around the world. It will also guarantee all veterans job training and well-paid employment with union representation within the People’s Corps. Additionally, the emergency act will end all U.S. aid to Israel immediately and lift the cruel system of U.S. sanctions that make it difficult for countries like Cuba, Venezuela, and Iran to import essential goods such as food and medicine.

We will usher in a new era of foreign policy based on solidarity and diplomacy, not domination.

  • The Trump administration is carrying out an all-out assault on our rights. They are conducting a war against Black America through thinly veiled attacks on “DEI”. They are waging a campaign of ICE terror against our immigrant communities. They are eviscerating women’s access to reproductive healthcare. They are demonizing LGBTQ people. They are attempting to restrict the free speech rights of all of their political opponents. All told, these attacks are part of a long-term project of the right-wing to overturn the rights won by movements of working people.

Trump and his administration justify these attacks by blaming vulnerable groups for the problems in our society — so we as working class people will point the finger at each other rather than at the billionaires and politicians who are truly responsible. Though these attacks are driven by Trump’s ultra-right agenda, the Democrats are not putting up any effective opposition. We need to combat their campaign of division with one of solidarity.

We propose the Emergency Act Against Hate and Division: a massive public educational campaign to debunk right-wing propaganda, to teach people the true history of our country, and to engender values of unity between people of different backgrounds.

At the same time, our campaign proposes programs to rectify the historic and ongoing injustices against the groups that Trump demonizes. This includes:

    • Reinstating and expanding affirmative action programs

    • Reparations to Black America in the form of cash payments and community investments

    • Prosecuting police officers who murder civilians

    • Ending mass incarceration

    • Guaranteeing voting rights for all citizens, including incarcerated people

    • Abolishing ICE and providing a path to citizenship for every person living inside the United States

    • Providing free reproductive health services including abortion

    • Heavily investing in domestic violence prevention

    • Ensuring the right to gender-affirming healthcare

    • Honoring treaties with indigenous nations

WHY MASSACHUSETTS NEEDS SOCIALISM

Our state is a prime example of how the wealth that we as working people produce under capitalism is hoarded by billionaires, and the economy is structured to line their pockets rather than meet our needs. The richest 1% in MA have more wealth than the bottom 90% of us combined. Our state consistently ranks as one of the most expensive states in the country. The median price for a single family home here is nearly $1 million, over half of all households that rent spend more than 30% of their income on rent, and less than 20% of renter households can afford the new market-rate housing that is touted by politicians as the solution to the housing crisis. Despite being home to some of the most prestigious hospitals in the world, quality healthcare remains out of reach for many of us because Massachusetts ranks as one of the states with the highest premium costs in the country — costs which continue to climb at an unprecedented rate

All the while, Massachusetts has been a ‘blue state’ for almost a century.

The impact of this billionaires’ grift and resulting cost of living crisis is especially acute in our Black and immigrant neighborhoods. Massachusetts is one of the most segregated states in the country when it comes to housing and schooling. Though MA is ranked as one of the states with the highest quality K-12 education, these numbers don’t tell the full story. There is a stark underresourcing of our schools in predominantly Black and immigrant neighborhoods, as well as in rural towns. Similarly, despite being home to some of the most prestigious hospitals in the world, our state is plagued with health deserts, and Black, immigrant populations, and rural communities often lack access to primary care, medical specialists, and mental health professionals.

Our socialist platform is written with Massachusetts in mind — the life we deserve is within reach if we organize and fight for it!
