Berkshires DSA Endorses Joe Tache for U.S. Senate

Berkshires DSA, the Democratic Socialists of America chapter for Berkshire County, has endorsed Joe Tache, the Party for Socialism and Liberation's candidate for U.S. Senate in Massachusetts. The endorsement follows a town hall hosted in Pittsfield on September 1, and points to the economic toll of disinvestment in the Berkshires as reason for socialists to unite behind Tache's campaign.

[Pittsfield, MA] — Berkshires DSA has endorsed Joe Tache for U.S. Senate. The chapter co-hosted Tache's town hall at WANDER Berkshires in Pittsfield on September 1.

In a statement from Goodie, a member of the chapter's Steering Committee and Electoral Working Group, Berkshires DSA said the region shows what capitalism leaves behind: "In the Berkshires, we see the scars of capitalism all around us. We know what it looks like when capitalist investors come in, make their money off our backs, and leave when times get tough... We sit surrounded by abandoned factories and crumbling infrastructure. Our neighbors struggle with addiction and homelessness, while well-to-do snowbirds and landlords buy up all the quality housing, jacking up the cost of living for the rest of us."

"In the richest state in the richest country on Earth, nobody should be going without while a few have it all," the statement continued. "The Berkshires needs Socialism. Massachusetts needs Socialism. America needs Socialism."

"The Berkshires DSA sees the crises of Capitalism and views solidarity between SOCIALISTS as of the utmost importance," the chapter said. "The movement as a whole takes precedence over what organizations we might be members of. This is why Berkshires DSA stands firmly and resolutely in support of PSL candidate for Senate, Joe Tache!"

"The Berkshires shows what capitalism actually does," said Tache. "General Electric came into this area, made its money, and left behind PCBs in the Housatonic River and an environmental crisis when it pulled out. Now one of the biggest employers left is General Dynamics, a war manufacturing plant, while a city like Pittsfield is left behind. Under socialism, we'd hold corporations accountable for the damage they've done and build real, meaningful opportunities here instead."

Tache is running with the Party for Socialism and Liberation against Democratic incumbent Ed Markey and Republican John Deaton.
